Hannah Duncan

Adv. Diploma Therapeutic. Counselling (Wiltshire College).

Cert in Counselling Supervision (Palmoasis), MBACP, BA Hons

Experience and Background:

I qualified as a therapist in 2006 after completing my Certificate and Diploma training at Wiltshire College. Since qualification, my therapeutic work has mainly been divided between my work for The SWAN Project, a non 12-step addiction and alcohol agency in Bristol, a private practice in Bristol and a private practice from my home in, Wiltshire. From Sept 07 – March 09 I worked as a Counselling Skills Tutor for Wiltshire College, offering the Introduction to Counselling Skills qualification. I have 3 year’s experience undertaking group work with those trying to control or stop drinking. I also have a Certificate in Counselling Supervision, and am engaged in supervising the work of other counsellors, both within the SWAN agency and in private practice. I have over 2,000 hours of counselling, group facilitation and supervision experience. My background degree was in English Literature, which I believe created an early thirst in me for hearing and absorbing the story of the individual – and using “story” as a means of seeking to understand and explore the human psyche in a way that can be meaningful and connecting.

What can I offer you?

My approach to counselling and supervision is an Integrative Relational one – I value the opportunity to work with the “real” relationship in the therapy room, integrating aspects of different models in a way that best meets the client’s needs. I greatly value a creative approach to my work that incorporates the psychosynthesis and transpersonal models, held within an essentially person-centred framework. Working in a reflective way with images, dreams and story/metaphor; being open to the body as a tool for unlocking emotion and memory has come to be important and integral parts of what I feel I offer in my therapeutic practice. My style is relaxed and warm, whilst maintaining safe professional and ethical boundaries. I hold private Professional Indemnity Insurance and am committed to attending regular supervision of my own practice.

What specific issues have I experience of working with?

Abuse, addictions (including alcohol, drug and gambling addictions), attachment issues, anxiety, bereavement and loss, compulsive behaviours, clinical depression, including bi-polar disorder and personality disorders, eating disorders, gender issues/sexual issues, insomnia and sleep disorders, self harm, relationship breakdown and change, major life events including life-stage changes.
